Fix it Friday....

To say I am having fun with "I Heart Faces" is an understatement!! Today the challenge was to make this picture look "period". I wanted this picture to look like it was found in an old chest or book. I hope it worked! I used PSE and Florabella Textures.

Time out....

Time Out! When June is doing something she should not be....I count 1, 2, and on 3 if she has not stopped what she is doing she goes to time out. She usually does not like time out, however, lately she uses it to her advantage. The other day she had a marshmallow, I asked her to please give it to me. June's answer, "NO!". So I began to count, well on 2 she headed right over to our time out spot and shoved the marshmallow in her mouth. Clever, huh? This morning at breakfast she decided she did not want her waffle, she went to the freezer and grabbed the ice cream. Again, I asked her to put the ice cream away. June's answer, "NO!!". Again, the counting, again to time out on 2 with the ice cream. I guess I must not be the best disciplinarian because I ran for my camera!

A week in review.....

Yet another week passes by....we had a busy week. Football is back and Max has practice 3 times a week. School starts in 20 days(who's counting) and soccer and cross country will start soon after. Unfortunately for me I still have not unloaded the school bags from the last day of school. Every year I put if off waiting for that rainy afternoon when everyone needs something to do.....it never happens and a week before school starts I "unload". I better hurry, I am running out of time!

Max had a great week. Besides the usual summer time fun in the yard with the neighborhood kids, he went to Great America and spent a day on Lake Michigan watching the air show from his friends boat. We also went to China Town and did some school clothes shopping. Not a bad week for a nine year old!

June is really coming into her own. She has always been strong willed, but she is really changing fast and "growing" her little personality. I thought I would give an update:

June Can......

warm her own milk

do it....

change her own band aid

start her favorite DVD(this week Kai Lan)

start her bath water

get her own snack

let the dog out and in

help me with my make up

put on her own shoes

tell the boys what to do: wear helmets, come to dinner, etc...

get in her car seat

pick out her clothes, shoes, etc. and put most of it on

ride a scooter

ride a tricycle

dash-dash(color)

play dress up, sing, and dance

stack blocks

act shy in public(not at home)

and talk....she is really starting to talk

I know I forgot plenty and since this is my virtual baby book I thought I should give an update so when she asks, "What could I do when I was two", I can say let's look at the blog. Talking about baby books, I was never good at them. TJ's is the most complete, Jake's not so much, Max only had a calender and June has the blog.....

We have a busy week coming up, filled with doctor appointments, dentist appointments, orthodontist appointments, hair cuts, a family reunion, and family portraits. Did I mention Russ has to go out of town again....Ugh, I will need all of my energy to keep it all together this week.

Have a good one!

Dragon Boat Festival....

As soon as we stepped out of the car the smell was divine....China Town smells beautiful! Needless to say our first stop was lunch and what a lunch it was.
The boys all ordered won ton soup(thinking of the small bowl you get when you carry out Chinese), well the bowl was the size of a large kitchen mixing bowl. They also ordered these creamy tapioca drinks and sweet and sour chicken. What the boys ordered alone could have fed us for a week.....what Russ and I ordered could have also fed us for a week! No complaints, however, the food was spectacular and June had her favorites...noodles and dumplings.
Then it was on to the Dragon Boat Races....

The races were fun to watch and all the proceeds went to sponsor literacy....

We also did a little shopping. June picked out a pink umbrella and the boys picked out solar powered Nintendo bobble heads. For those of you who have been to China I purchased an embroidered picture for just a few dollars more than they cost in China. Next time we head to China Town I am on a mission for "squeaky" shoes.

This is a beautiful tile mosaic in China Town. Today was our first visit and it won't be our last there was so much to see and soooooo much to eat. I enjoyed seeing authentic Chinese culture mixed with our own. We saw people doing there morning exercise, Chinese grocers(just like the stores we bought water from in China), stores with all sorts of Chinese goodies as well as "Hello Kitty" merchandise, and a melting pot of people. What a great experience for all of us....

Scooter wash? or June wash?

Jake decided to wash his scooter today and lucky for June she was able to help. However, by the time it was over I think June was cleaner than the scooter.....and where is Jake you ask? Of course Jake ducked out when he saw the camera coming. What is a mom to do, I may have to sneak pictures of the boys while they sleep:)

June on July 4th.....

July 4th, 2009

July 4th, 2008

I loved this picture of June last year, so this year I decided to take the same type of picture on the pier on the same day. I hope to do the same each year. I love the difference a year makes and I hope to chronicle this day for her to look back on. Yes, I would also love to chronicle the boys, but the seriously run when they see me coming with the camera! There are more pictures from this day in the gallery.

Just rolling around......

June loves rolling down the hill in our front yard. When she gets to the bottom she says, "Ouch", and then usually get up and goes again.....

A week in review....

Happy Anniversary to me! This is my 52nd "Week in Review" post. I started this weekly journal to keep track of my life. Sometimes I have a lot, sometimes not so much. On some Sunday evenings the last thing I want to do is BLOG, but I did just to keep track. I am sure someday I will go back and read them and I hope "Blogger" is still around so the kids can go back and read them too. I am sure many might think my life is boring or mundane, but it is my life and right now I am good with that, boring or not.

Boring is a good segway into this paragraph....I went back to work today for the first time in a month. I had switched a few Sundays due to our vacation plans. I don't mind going to work and today I actually looked forward to it. You see it was a good break from my "boring" life of food prep and laundry. Yes, I have decided that with 4 kids my life is mostly about food prep and laundry. I know you all know what I mean! As soon as school starts up and sports begin I will add chauffeur to the list(in fact football starts this week). Now back to work so I can make my point, I did have a point. Work today was pure entertainment. I have been a pharmacist since 1992 (Yikes!) and to this very day I am still amazed at how the general population acts in a retail setting, truly amazed. I wish I could share my stories, but someday Rebecca is going to write my Memoir and all the stories will be in the book, so I hate to spoil a good read. For now, you will have to accept that I had an entertaining day. If any of you work retail or have in the past you know what I am talking about.

Tuesday I picked up the boys from their trip to Grammies and Grandpas, they all had a great time. The went through the lock and dam on the Mississippi River, saw Indian artifacts, went swimming, skate boarding, and enjoyed visiting with Grammie and Grandpa without Mom and Dad around. The rest of the week we just stayed around the house, visited with friends, and of course did laundry. The whole week for me, of course, was a build up to DAVE!

Russ and I headed out around 5:30pm had some dinner and then drove to Alpine Valley. Traffic getting into the concert was backed up for miles and we did not get into our seats until around 7:30pm. Much to my excitement the e-tickets I purchased were real and we had seats in the 24th row.....the closest we have ever been. The set list was great a lot of new songs as well as some old favorites. Russ and I both heard songs we wanted to hear. The picture below is from my cell phone. The pic does not give a clear picture of what we could see, but none the less, I had to post it. I found a web-site that posts set list from concerts and am adding it to this post. I think you can even listen to the songs(turn off my music on the bottom of course). Anyway, I am about done....ready to hit the couch and have a snack. Enjoy your week!

Grace......

I am not eloquent in my writing and I do not always have the words I need to describe what I feel, therefore, I hope what I have to say comes across in the manner I intend. I did not always know God. However, as with all, even those who deny His existence, He continued to call me. Sometimes He whispered, sometimes He shouted. You see, God wants us to know Him, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We are all called differently. We are called through, situation, circumstance, happiness, hopelessness, longing, and prayer. We do not always recognize the call. Sometimes our prayers are answered and sometimes they appear not to be, our time and our ways are not His. However, sometimes they are. Today I was given a gift. God in all His Charity and Grace gave me a glimpse of His plan and clearly answered one of my many prayers. Today my heart has peace. Thank you.

I have been bitten....bitten by the photo-bug! Ever since I received my new camera I have been taking lots of pictures, too many according to some of my family members:) Well I have started a new blog to post some of my favorites. A week in review.....

I am beginning to get used to each week around here being a whirlwind. I find myself thinking quite often how fast the kids are growing and also wondering how fast until the end of the day so I can rest. Somewhere in between is "Nirvana" and I think every stay at home mom would love to find the balance, at least that is what I tell myself so I don't feel so bad......It took me almost 4 days to unpack and get the house organized from our trip to the cabin and as soon as I felt organized it was time to start over and get ready to head to Iowa to see Russ's parents. A long overdue trip that we were all looking forward to. We all headed out on Friday afternoon, Russ, June and I came home this afternoon and the boys are enjoying some "three on two" time with Grammie and Grandpa. Grammie and I will meet half way on Wednesday and make the exchange:) We had a great weekend and I know the boys will enjoy their time in Iowa. Max even asked if he could live in Iowa when he grows up. Saturday we went to the Discovery Center (children's museum), the boys went to the pool, and we finished off the day at the arboretum. Russ and I also celebrated our 17th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday!

Russ, June, and I on our anniversary.....Jake took the picture!

Grammie, Jake, and, June

Russ and June

Jake, June, and the cat....we are all cat lovers around here....June was more interested in the cat than the gardens. Lucky for June the cat liked us and followed us for a good part of our visit.

Sweet!

The Discovery Center....fun for all!
Two words...Kentucky Coffee! Russ and I fell in love with the tree on the left, it is a beautiful Kentucky Coffee tree at the arboretum we visit in Iowa. When we started planting trees in our yard we had to have one(ours is on the right).....we have a long, long, long, long, way to go!
We are looking forward to a good week. How could it be bad.....only 5 days until DAVE....one of my favorite nights of the year!
Have a Great Week!
