June and the Beanstalk

About two weeks ago June's teachers taught a unit on nursery rhymes. All the basics were covered: "Little Red Riding Hood", "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", "The Three Little Pigs", and "Jack and the Beanstalk". With each story June brought home a craft or activity. The parents are even going to be treated to a theater day this Friday. Of course, to go along with "Jack and the Beanstalk" the kids planted beans. June was so excited to bring home her jar and growth chart....she was ready for this bean to grow. She placed the jar on her dresser, opened her drapes every day for sunlight, made sure the dirt was moist, and she waited. After a week or so, I started to get a little worried that she had a BAD seed.

No need to worry....

Thankfully all of her TLC paid off. One morning Russ and I woke up to a scream (the kind of scream that makes you go running to make sure no one is hurt kind of scream). No one was hurt, however, a tiny white sprout was peeking out of the dirt and June was REALLY excited. Every morning now we hear a squeal of joy about how big the beanstalk grew over night and every day June tends to her tender beanstalk. She plans on climbing it soon!

How cute! Hey, have you ever ordered caterpillars that turn into butterflies? I did that with my son once and he loved it! I was just thinking I should do it again as soon as it gets warmer. If June loves tending to a bean plant, think how much she'd love mothering some butterflies :)

I see on the stem of the plant, the tag reads *God's Miracle to Us.*

I'd say He got it right. Twice.

That is SO cute! We've been nursing a seed since October. Seriously a pumpkin seed that they planted in preschool. It's not near as healthy looking as yours right now...I truly hope it can hold on until Spring.

Awwwwww---I used to do a Fairy Tale unit and we always did Jack & the Beanstalk. Everyone planted a bean and we made a cut out of Jack to put in with the seed. June has done a good job. I want pictures when she climbs it!!

Adorable! My boys are still waiting for pumpkin seeds to grow. It hasn't dawned on them that they aren't going to grow.
