Oh how I love a snow day! The kids are always full of anticipation waiting to find out if they will have school, making plans for the day. I love waking up to a blanket of snow and having all of my people in one place....home. A typical snow day around here includes brownies and hot chocolate(or some kind of baked goodie) and lots of loads of laundry! However, this year we have not had one snow day, not one. I do not think we have had even 6 inches of snow total. Don't get me wrong, I am a Summer girl at heart, but I do love at least one snow day. Since I could not share the warmth of the kiddos on a snow day, I thought I would at least share the brownies and hot chocolate, made with XOXO just for you....

Okay, now on to the brownies. I am usually an "out of the box" kinda girl when it comes to brownies...you know, easy, fast, chocolate. Well, no more! I found this recipe and I do not think I will use a box again. Easy, fast, and oh so chocolatey!
Best Brownies
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter melted
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup self-rising flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup walnuts (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease and flour 8x8 or 9x9 pan. (I used a silicon baking pan greased with shortening)
2. In a medium bowl beat melted butter and sugar. Add eggs, mix well. Combine flour, cocoa, salt; combine with sugar mixture. Mix in vanilla. Spread in pan evenly.
3. Bake 25-30 minutes, cool completely before cutting. (I baked the hearts for 22 minutes)
note: I used regular flour and added my own baking powder
